What is Medical Foot Care?
Medical foot care is professional nursing care focused on keeping your feet healthy, comfortable, and free of problems.
Unlike a spa pedicure, medical foot care is performed by a nurse with specialized training in foot health and infection control.
Services may include:
Nail trimming, thinning, and reduction of thick or fungal nails
Safe corn and callus reduction
Diabetic foot assessments and education
Care for ingrown or problem nails
Moisturizing and skin care to prevent cracks and infections
Monitoring circulation and sensation in the feet
Basic wound care for minor foot injuries, as indicated and within RPN scope of practice
Medical foot care is especially important for people with diabetes, circulation issues, reduced mobility, or anyone experiencing pain or difficulty caring for their feet.
Treatments are done using single-use tools, proper sterilization, and evidence-based practices to ensure safety.
Healthy feet support mobility, independence, and overall quality of life, making medical foot care an important part of preventative health.

About Nurse Erin RPN POD.FS
Erin Massia is a Registered Practical Nurse with additional training in advanced lower limb and foot care. Erin graduated in 2020 from the Practical Nursing Program at St Lawrence College and completed her foot care training in 2023, through Feet For Life providing the title Registered Podortho Foot Specialist (POD.FS).
As a registered member of the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO), the Ontario Foot Care Association (OFCA), the Canadian Foot Care Association (CFCA) and the Registered Practical Nurses Association of Ontario (RPNAO), she is committed to providing high-quality, evidence-based care She brings a compassionate and professional approach to each client interaction, aiming to prevent complications, maintain mobility, and improve overall quality of life.
Erin is passionate about helping individuals, particularly seniors and those with chronic conditions such as diabetes, maintain healthy feet through preventative care and education.
She believes in a client - centered approach, taking the time to listen, educate, and empower individuals in managing their foot health. Erin provides a safe and welcoming environment for all.
Inital Foot Care Appointment (1 hour - 1.5 hours)
The initial appointment includes a full review of your health and foot history, followed by complete foot exam and foot care. Nails are trimmed, filed, and smoothed, thick or fungal nails can be reduced with a professional nail drill, ingrown nails are gently cared for, corns or callouses are safely reduced, and basic wound care is provided if needed, within the RPN scope of practice. Each visit ends with foot care tips to help keep your feet healthy between appointments.
Follow Up Foot Care Appointment (30min-45min)
A maintenance appointment to keep your feet comfortable and healthy. Nails are trimmed, filed, and smoothed, with care for ingrown nails, corns, callouses, or minor wounds as needed, within the RPN scope of practice. This is recommended 6-8 weeks after the initial appointment.
Extended Follow Up Foot Care Appointment (45min-1 hour)
For clients needing extra time and care. This visit includes all standard foot care (nail trimming, filing, smoothing, ingrown nail care, corns/callous reduction, and wound care as needed, within the RPN scope of practice), with additional time for more complex needs or multiple areas of concern.
